Ashley Gorge

Hi everyone,

Today i am going to tell you about my trip to Ashley Gorge.

 
The weather was nice so we played football, went swimming in the river, camped in a caravan and went for a hike. The holiday park had a trampoline and we went on it a lot ! I tried to do a somersault but as you would think that did not go so well. 

We stayed just for 1 day but I had a lot of fun even thought I got bitten by sandflies.

Taylor’s Mistake

Today i found out why they named the bay Taylor’s Mistake :

The Naming of the Bay
The naming of this small bay between Sumner and Lyttelton Harbour has been the subject of rich debate. Who was this Taylor and what was his mistake?
The name Taylor’s Mistake is most commonly attributed to a Captain Taylor of the Volga. In 1858 Taylor beached the American ship in the bay. He also mistook the bay’s identity. Sources are split, with some suggesting Sumner and others pointing to Lyttelton Harbour as Taylor’s intended destination.
While the origin of the name seems obvious, but six years later a second Captain Taylor was guilty of a navigational mistake in the bay. In 1864 the schooner Catherine also ran aground at Taylor’s Mistake. Although the Volga incident is still widely credited to be the story behind the name, neither this story nor the later case of the Catherine are likely to have inspired it.

For Maths we did fractions. 

Question 1: 

In order to combat extreme hunger around the world, agriculture systems worldwide must become

-more productive; and

-less wasteful.

There are a few different systems being used in Africa in order to feed their people, especially their children. 

Which Farmer was most successful?

Farmer A planted 8 rows of 8 lettuces and yielded 3/4 of his crop

= 3/4 x 8 x 8

= 3/4 x 64

= 48

Farmer B planted  10 rows of 6 lettuces and yielded  5/6 of his crop

= 5/6 x 10 x 6

= 5/6 x 50

= 50

Farmer B is more successful.

Hi everyone,

How can I be a great Maths buddy?

1. I should be attentive and notice if anything needs attention

2. I should be helpful and offer my help with work no matter how difficult

3. I should also listen to my buddy's problems and offer help 

4. I must not be too selfish and expect solutions to my own problems only 

5. I must not be calculative and do my share of work also instead of expecting my buddy to do everything

6. I must share responsibility and ideas
